Description
The 5V Passive Piezoelectric Buzzer is a small, lightweight audio component designed to generate customizable tones in electronic projects. Operating on a 3.5–5.5V DC supply (optimal at 5V), this passive buzzer requires an external oscillating signal, such as a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal from a microcontroller like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or ESP32, to produce sound. Unlike active buzzers, which emit a fixed tone when powered, this passive buzzer allows tone and volume control by varying the signal frequency (typically 1.5–14kHz, with a resonant frequency around 2300 ± 300 Hz) and duty cycle. It delivers a sound output of ≥85dB at 10cm with a 2048Hz square wave, suitable for alarms, timers, and notifications. The buzzer features a piezoelectric ceramic disk bonded to a metal diaphragm, encased in a 12mm diameter x 8.5mm high black plastic housing, with two 6mm pins (0.3″ pitch) for breadboard or PCB mounting. It consumes ≤30mA at 5V, making it energy-efficient for battery-powered devices. With an impedance of ~15 ohms, a series resistor (e.g., 120 ohms) is recommended when driving directly from an MCU pin to limit current and prevent damage, as MCU pins typically supply 20–40mA max. The buzzer is not polarity-sensitive, simplifying installation, and operates reliably from -20°C to 60°C. This RoHS-compliant component is ideal for DIY projects like IoT devices, robotics, and educational experiments, using libraries like Arduino’s tone() function for easy integration. Note: Requires an oscillating signal to function; direct DC power will not produce sound.
