Description
The 1N270 Germanium Diode is a classic point-contact diode designed for low-power, high-sensitivity applications, particularly in radio frequency (RF) detection and vintage electronics. With a maximum reverse voltage (Vrrm) of 100V and a forward current (If) rating of 40mA (with a peak surge capability of up to 200mA), it’s well-suited for crystal radios, AM detectors, and audio circuits where a low forward voltage drop is critical. Encased in a glass DO-7 package, the 1N270 offers a forward voltage drop of approximately 0.3V at 10mA—much lower than silicon diodes—due to its germanium construction, making it ideal for signal rectification with minimal signal loss. It has a power dissipation of around 80mW and operates within a temperature range of -65°C to 85°C. This diode is a favorite among hobbyists restoring vintage radios or building authentic germanium-based circuits, featuring axial leads and a marked cathode (typically a band or dot) for polarity identification.
