Made from cadmium sulfide (CdS), this LDR exhibits photoconductivity, reducing its resistance as light intensity increases. At 10 lux (e.g., dim indoor lighting), resistance ranges from 5–10kΩ; in darkness (<1 lux), it exceeds 1MΩ; and at 1000 lux (bright daylight), it drops to ~100–200Ω. With a peak spectral response at 540nm (visible light, green-yellow), it mimics human eye sensitivity, making it ideal for applications like automatic lighting, dusk-to-dawn switches, and light meters. The 5mm diameter epoxy-encapsulated sensor (4.3mm body, 31mm leads) operates at 150V DC max, with a 100mW power dissipation and a current up to 20mA (0.5mA at 10 lux). Its response time is ~20ms (rise) and ~30ms (fall), suitable for gradual light changes but not rapid fluctuations.
