Description

The 5mm Flame Sensor IR Diode YG1006 Phototransistor is a compact, high-speed NPN silicon phototransistor designed to detect infrared (IR) light in the 760–1100nm wavelength range, making it highly effective for sensing flames or other IR-emitting sources like lighters or candles. Encased in a 5mm (T-1 3/4) black epoxy package with a daylight filter, the YG1006 is particularly sensitive to IR radiation, such as the thermal radiation emitted by flames, which includes both discrete gas radiation and continuous solid radiation spectra. Operating at 3–5V DC (30V max collector-emitter voltage, 5mA typical collector current), it produces both current and voltage proportional to incident IR intensity, unlike photoresistors that only produce current. In bright IR conditions (e.g., flame at 80cm), resistance drops significantly, allowing current flow; in darkness, resistance is high, limiting current. With a peak response at ~940nm and a response time of ~15µs (rise/fall), it’s ideal for detecting flame flicker or IR sources in applications like fire alarms, smart car flame sensors, or robotics. For Arduino integration, connect the phototransistor in a voltage divider (e.g., emitter to GND, collector to a 10kΩ pull-up resistor to 5V, and to an analog pin like A0) to read analog values (0–1023), or use a digital pin with a comparator circuit for on/off detection. The sensor’s 60° detection angle and up to 80cm range (larger flames increase distance) make it versatile, though sensitivity decreases with non-flame IR sources like sunlight. This RoHS-compliant component (5mm diameter, 8.7mm height, 2.54mm lead spacing, ~0.2g) is durable from -25°C to +85°C but requires protection from moisture (no IP rating). Pair with a 16x2 LCD to display detection status or an A4988-driven NEMA 17 motor for flame-triggered motion. For enhanced functionality, consider a 4-pin flame sensor module with an LM393 comparator. Note: Calibrate with a known flame source, and shield from ambient IR to avoid false positives.
